Leading names join the debate at interntional Bus & Coach Conference
July 22nd, 2008
Leading names from both Europe and North America will be debating some of the key issues facing the bus and coach sector at a high profile International Conference taking place in conjunction with Euro Bus Expo 2008 this autumn.
The Conference, which organised and hosted by the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) - the trade body for the bus, coach and light rail industries in the UK - will take place over two half day sessions on the afternoon of Wednesday 5th and the morning of Thursday November 6. The Conference will run in parallel with three day Euro Bus Expo 2008, which runs November 4 to 6 inclusive also at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.
“Keeping buses moving – an International Perspective” will bring together prominent speakers from the UK, continental Europe and North America to discuss a range of highly topical issues facing the bus and coach industry, such as vehicle emissions, environmental impact, network planning and social inclusion.
Chaired by CPT President Giles Fearnley, it will include keynote address from the Rt Hon Rosie Winterton MP, Minister of State for Transport and an opening address from Peter Pantuso, CEO of the American Bus Association.
Following Peter Pantuso’s opening address at 14.00 hrs on Wednesday November 5, the first part of the conference will focus on both the London and the European experience of keeping cities moving. It will feature a presentation titled “Politics and Public Transport” from Lord Snape the former Labour Transport spokesperson and MP, with further contributions from Tony De Pledge from Arriva plc, as well as a joint address by Mark Billet and Graham Smith from the IRU.
David Leeder from FirstGroup will then highlight experiences in operating in different markets, with Wednesday’s proceedings concluding after a question and answer session at approximately 17.00 hrs.
The second part of the conference will be opened by the Minister of State’s keynote address at 10.00hrs on the morning of Thursday November 6. It will then be followed by a discussion on the operational experiences in making public transport a greener alternative to cars. Moderated by BBC Midlands Today Transport Correspondent Peter Plisner, the debate will include contributions from Arriva, FirstGroup, Go Ahead Group, National Express Group and Stagecoach Group. The final session concludes with further contributions from the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, with the programme concluding after questions at 12.30pm.
“Hosting an International Conference, in conjunction with Europe’s leading bus and coach show this year, has given us an excellent opportunity to put together a highly informative programme with an exceptionally high quality of speakers,” said CPT Director of Communications John Major.
He added, “The structure and timing of the conference means that delegates will have plenty of time to visit the 300 plus Exhibitors at Euro Bus Expo without missing any of the conference sessions, whilst the pricing structure of the event makes it readily affordable and accessible, thereby facilitating a wide as possible audience to discuss and debate some of the key issues facing the bus and coach sectors today.”
The cost of attending the full conference programme is just £90 (£75 for CPT members), or £50 (CPT members £45) for a single half day – all prices are subject to VAT at the prevailing rate. Delegate attendance at the Conference can be secured by calling Chris Nice or Clare Kehoe on+44 (0)20 7257 2518 or +44 (0)20 7257 2521.
