Mark joined National Bus’ training scheme in November 1984. He trained with The West Riding Group and remained with them following a successful management buy-out. In August 1986 he set up Sheffield & District Transport. In 1989 he was appointed MD of the groups Tyre and Exhaust business, before moving to head office working on company acquisitions. In 1991 Mark joined the Yorkshire Woollen bus company.
In 1994 he moved from Yorkshire Woollen to NCT as Deputy MD, where he led on the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) scheme. Mark was appointed MD of NCT in the autumn of 2000 and in 2001 restructured the company to accommodate the introduction of NET Line One. From 2003 to 2010 he was Chairman of the NET Company. Since 2014 he has been Chairman of Traveline. He has made a special study of Operational Management, obtaining his MBA in this subject in 1989.
