Martijn, who joined Reading Buses in 2014, will be sharing some of the initiatives that Reading Buses uses to engage, retain and develop its staff – from the introduction of ‘Improvement Champions’ across the business to ‘more casual’ uniforms to a mission statement that reflects the views of the entire 550-strong workforce.
Gilbert took up the leadership of the award winning 180 vehicle Reading Buses business as its CEO in November 2014. He joined from Arriva PLC where he worked for over 7 years in both its bus and rail divisions. At Arriva he led the mobilisation and re-launch of its Yorkshire Tiger subsidiary, including harnessing the latest customer technologies to re-invigorate services to Leeds Bradford International Airport and the Universities of Leeds. He started his career in transport 15 years ago with London Underground’s service planning team and since then has worked in the independent, PLC and now municipal sectors of the bus and coach industry. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, an active member of its Young Professionals Forum and is very passionate about innovation, technology and excellent customer service delivery.
